Redefining Learning Design with AI
Exploring the Future of Learning Design with Dr Philippa Hardman's AI Bootcamp
Initially, many of us turned to AI tools to boost productivity - whether it was firing off emails in seconds, turning dense content into easy-to-digest bullet points, or automating repetitive tasks. These uses are definitely helpful (and often kind of fun -like generating images).
But we’ve now reached a point where AI can partner with us on a much deeper level. AI is capable of understanding our objectives, communicating effectively, and it co-creates with us, making the final product a true result of human-AI collaboration.
This shift is already making waves across many industries, and instructional design is no exception.
I recently had the chance to dive deeper into this through the AI Learning Design Bootcamp by Dr. Philippa Hardman.
So, why did I join the AI Bootcamp?
Dr. Philippa Hardman is someone I’ve followed for a while in the intersecting worlds of AI and Instructional Design. I regularly read Dr Phil's Newsletter, Powered by DOMS™️ AI and what really drew me to her work is that she is a passionate innovator. While my goal was to deepen my understanding of AI tools to optimize the learning design process, I was also eager to experience her approach to exploring new frontiers, which is rooted in solid scientific research.
The four weeks of AI Bootcamp left a lasting impact. Not only did I have an opportunity to develop skills in using AI tools to make the learning analysis, design, development, and evaluation processes more efficient and effective, but I also learned some really practical prompting techniques - and completed four (yes, four!) projects. Beyond that, I now have a deeper understanding of how to build processes for human and AI collaboration in co-working and co-producing.
The feedback I received from Dr Hardman was invaluable. It pushed me to dig deeper and gave me the confidence to take on more challenging projects ( like creating a chatbot for the course evaluation). There are still plenty of hurdles ahead (such as ongoing need to validate AI outputs), but if you want to stay at the cutting edge of innovation, that’s part of the deal.
Another highlight was the chance to meet some incredible people from different parts of the world at the AI Bootcamp. I really enjoyed human-to-human communication within our cohort and the culture of sharing during the course.
And on a personal note - this is a really special time for me. I’m starting my entrepreneurial journey with my startup, TT Lab, which is officially up and running (hooray!), though I’m still working on the website. I founded TT Lab to provide digital learning solutions powered by cognitive science and AI, and thanks to the AI Bootcamp, I feel so much more prepared to bring these solutions to life.
And I can’t forget to mention one more bonus from the AI Learning Design Bootcamp - a playlist to help you focus while designing. I have to say, it’s a lot more upbeat than what I usually listen to while working.
I’ll be sharing more about my journey of creating learning solutions together with AI. There’s so much more to explore, and I’ll be documenting the insights, challenges, and breakthroughs along the way.
Stay tuned - there’s plenty ahead!
